LinoPrint DriveLine B

Digital printing system for variable multi-color printing on labels, foils and paper

DriveLine B provides excellent multi-color, high resolution printing, for complete printing of labels (paper or coated) and web stocks (paper, aluminum or plastics), or for adding variable information to substrates just-in-time. Short runs, long runs, language changes, serialization, linear and 2D codes, security and anti-counterfeiting measures and any thing else your package materials require can be accomplished with DriveLine B.

Integration of a rather sophisticated print unit including the substrate transport system in a packaging or production line would overstretch that line's capabilities in many cases.

Therefore DriveLine B was constructed as a compact standalone-system.

DriveLine B combines the precision of a professional printing system with the flexibility of digital printing according to the requirements of the production workflow.

DriveLine B can be supplied as a Roll-To-Roll or Roll-To-Production system.

DriveLine is easy to use and is ergonomically engineered.

DriveLine B prints on aluminum, plastic, foils, self-adhesive labels, paper and other flexible packaging materials in professional, high-resolution quality. The digital system connects variable graphics and text/data in such a way that within a print run, different versions can be printed in the correct quantity in a designated order. Therefore production of orders can be completed immediately, even for the smallest possible quantities.

The time between placing of an order and delivery is considerably shortened and at times can be measured in minutes. Since printing will be late stage customization, expenses in logistics and warehousing are reduced and material scrap tends to be zero. Therefore the use of digital printing is better for the environment and economical even for large runs.

The drawing shows how the self-adhesive label web is passed through the machine and around the printing cylinder.

DriveLine B delivers highly precise and clean print images. For multi-color printing an exact adjustment of the substrate is necessary. The material has to be accurately fixed and guided with a constant speed and carried underneath the print head.  Linoprint called on Heidelberg’s years of experience in material handling and uses a generous dimensioned cylinder to guide the material past the print heads. The print system can be adjusted for the substrate used, so with DriveLine B it is possible to print substrates which are flexible, elastic, or respond highly sensitively to pressure or temperature exposure. Stretching of the material during the printing process is eliminated. For especially sensitive materials, the cylinder has been equipped with an additional cooling system for material temperature control.

DriveLine B can be easily used for different materials without redundant adjustments. The set up efforts are minimal, because the parameters for print information, material and web tension are stored in a data bank.

DriveLine B emphasizes flexibility through its compact modular design. The system is offered as an Offline, stand alone roll-to-roll version or can be integrated to a packaging line. The Inline version will be installed with the suitable connection module. On request DriveLine B can be equipped with an extra large winding and/or unwinding unit. DriveLine B is built for process color printing, but can also be equipped for single or two color printing.

DriveLine B can be delivered with optional print heads for binary-printing or photo printing. The binary print heads provide a printing speed of 30 m/min (98ft./min.) and the modules for photo printing a maximum grey scale value printing speed of 16 m/min (52 ft./min). The maximum print width of DriveLine B is currently 288 mm (11 1/3") with a maximum web width of 324mm (about 12").

The ink used is crucial for the perfect print image. It not only has to have excellent adhesion qualities but also provide a clear, sharp, dense coating, dry uniformly and be abrasion resistant. Therefore the Linoprint inks are matched exactly to the respective printing substrate and are sold under the brand name Saphira, the Heidelberg consumables program. An integrated UV dryer enables a fast and gentle drying.

DriveLine B utilizes a powerful, easy to handle control software, LinoFlow, which can use any popular data type and can merge data from multiple sources. Depending on the function of the system, there are different workflow packages available which can be enhanced with additional components and range from special layout and image processing functions to a hundred percent print image control.
